I have read many articles about how GEP kids are too smart, how they are all nerds, how they look down on mainstreamers.
I can say for sure that this is untrue. When students get into GEP, they are not the only ones who make it through the first round of the test. Many make it through the first round. And when they go to their new school/class, they ALWAYS have a hard time coping at the start. And they are still children! People write things about how GEPers were so much cleverer than mainstreamers. Are they any different? Are they genetically modified? Are they aliens? Are they inhuman? NO. They are humans. They all have feelings. Some mainstreamers feel that GEPers will always have better results than them. This is also untrue. Look at the top scorers in PSLE. Are they always GEPers? No, no and N-O spells NO.
Do GEPers think they are superior to mainstream ones? No. Many of them miss their old friends, and wish to be with them again. Friends may desert them when they get into GEP. I know for a fact that many GEPers feel unjustified and sad that people would think like that of them. They are human, and have feelings. Sure, they may be smarter than average. But GEPers are not super-computers. They can still feel, they can still flunk tests. They can still be scared of injections, they can still cry. One GEP girl had many mainstream friends whose email she had, and when her email account somehow crashed she lost many contacts. She was so upset she almost cried. She also has 2 best friends who are in mainstream.
After reading this do you think that GEPers are still the smartest beings in the galaxy? Do you think that they care about nothing but studies? Do you think they are arrogant and obnoxious? I hope not, because the girl I had mentioned was me. I am a GEPer, and I want to tell all of you about how we feel, and about what we really are. If you agree with what I said not only I, but also my classmates would feel grateful.
